The War Over Graphic Cards

Written by a tech enthusiast

The GPU of a computer had always been one of the most important, and most expensive, components of a computer. The two giants in the desktop games have been Nvidia, a gaming-focused corporation, and AMD, a work-bent company.  In the high-end ball park, Nvidia sells the RTX 2080ti, with 11GB of GDDR6 memory, and a base clock speed of 1635 MHz (Founder’s Edition). AMD, to counter, has rebooted the fan-favourite Radeon line with Radeon vii. The Radeon vii runs on a 7nm process VEGA20, and with 16GB of memory. Radeon vii starts at 700 USD, and the RXT 2080ti starts at 1000 USD, so, although the 2080ti is on a different level in terms of performance, it is also far more expensive than the Radeon.

For anyone who builds budget gaming rigs, there are many new releases, especially from Nvidia. Nvidia has recently released the GTX 1660 and 1660ti. These have been put in direct competition with AMD’s RX580. According to Linus Media Group’s benchmarks, the 1660 is slightly faster than the RX580, but is far more expensive. The 1660, although released to counter the RX580 can reach turbo speeds rivalling the RX590. If you have more money to spend, however, the 1660ti may be a more cost-effective choice because of its GDDR6 memory and more CUDA cores. It significantly outperforms the GTX1660 and the RX590, although for a higher price.

For mid-range PC builders, Nvidia is far and away the best option. The RTX 2060, 2060ti and 2070 are all prime picks for you. The entire RTX line has many addition features, such as real-time ray tracing, in conjunction with great specs. The RTX 2070 runs at 1710 MHz and has 8GB GDDR6 memory at 16mbps. This, with Nvidia’s famous Turing process, supplies smooth frame rates. If you don’t care about ray tracing, then the GTX 1080 or 1080ti are also great choices. The GTX 1080ti has 3,584 CUDA cores, 11GB of GDDR5X memory and runs at a base clock of 1,480MHz.

In conclusion, in the budget game, AMD is the pick to go for. For the low-mid range, the 1660ti is the card to choose. However, in the enthusiast-level market, the cards are useful for different reasons. If you are looking for a gaming experience, Nvidia is the best you will find. If you are building a new workstation, AMD is the optimal choice.
